Come join us for two nurturing days focused on the healing and self care benefits of yoga. Saturday”s practice balances strength building with nurturing self care techniques. We’ll begin with some slow core flow asana to get you strong and connected; supporting you in meeting the demands of life in a centered, empowered way. Then, learn how to unwind from your busy work week with long held Yin poses and self massage to release stress and open the movement of Chi through the meridian pathways.

Sunday”s session continues the inner journey with a chakra focused practice. The chakras are a sacred complex of energy centers in our body that act as gateways to a deeper understanding of our relationship with life. Our practice combines yoga, focused breathwork, and a guided meditation for visioning through each of the 7 chakras to consciously create the life you are opening to receive. We’ll finish with a special creative process (it”s a surprise!).

The Breath, the Belly & Uddiyana Bandha

with Erika Hewitt
Sunday • May 20 • 2012 • 2:30-4:30pm • $25

Bandha is the Sanskrit work for “lock” or “seal.” Prana is the animating life force, our vital energy, that’s carried on the breath. This workshop will deconstruct Uddiyana Bandha, or upward abdominal lock, a powerful way of moving and channeling prana. Uddiyana necessarily involves Jalandhara Bhanda, or chin lock, and Mula Bhanda, root lock, which we’ll also explore. Used together, these techniques for manipulating the breath guide prana into channels that deepen the physical practice of Yoga. They also develop the intimate relationship between the body and the mind, taking Yoga practice beyond the physical level.

Our workshop will begin with gentle pranayama and navel-gazing. We’ll transition into deep core work to awaken both the abdominal muscles and the inner, subtle body. With that awareness built, we’ll focus intently on exercises for all levels — vocal, muscular, and breath-related — to explore Uddiyana Bandha and Jalandhara Bandha. Advanced students will have the opportunity to work on nauli, abdominal churning. We’ll end with gentle self-massage and a well-deserved savasana.

Please note:
This workshop is most appropriate for students who have been practicing yoga for at least one year and have some familiarity with ujjayi breathing. Please bring a yoga mat and a small towel, and wear a top or shirt that can be lifted to expose the stomach. Please do not eat for 2-3 hours before the workshop.

Ayurveda & Spring: Cooking For Your Dosha

with Katrina Hannah

Please click for flyer

Ayurveda is one of the three sister sciences of the Vedas along with Yoga and Jyotish. It is meant to be used as a way of achieving a persistent state of well being for the body.  In this workshop, we will use a diagnostic quiz to determine our individual Dosha and learn how to balance the body as the seasons change using food.  Doshas relate to the seasons of the year differently.  We’ll learn how the 6 tastes of Sweet, Sour, Salty, Astringent, Pungent, and Bitter are employed to maintain balance as the seasons progress.  We will also taste homemade Chai and share recipes for an appropriate breakfast, lunch, and dinner for the Spring season.
